Surround sound question of the Playstation 3 installation.

What has made today. A Slim Sony Playstation 3 with HDMI output to the input Sony 1000W 5.1 receiver. Then there is the receiver output to go directly to the TV via HDMI. The video quality is excellent for DVD and Blu Ray but I can not get 2.0 surround sound. What is strange aboiut thing is that games come with surround sound perfect. If anyone has any advice or experience on how to get surround sound to work, it would be great. Thank you in advance!

The PS3 Slim can output Blu-ray audio via the HDMI port on the bitstream or PCM. Try both settings and see if the receiver works differently with both. You can also test the connection a TOSLINK (output optical digital audio) of the power of the PS3 to the receiver and the audio output of this port in Bitstream format (Do not use PCM with an optical cable, no 5.1 surround support). If you're around this way, can mean that your receiver can not process the surround sound thanks to its HDMI input, that input optics.
